As the high school students returned from the Christmas holidays, the Education Team resumed its weekly routine activities, including leadership sessions for high school, 11th and 12th graders and English classes for 10th graders. A group of volunteers focused on launching a new pilot project, running sessions for mothers of children with learning difficulties in Pluma Hidalgo. The program was initiated following the success of the project assisting children with special needs for over a year. In the past, the team had mapped the communities in order to identify the pevailing challenges, whilst acquiring tools to complement the regional educational system via classes for kids with learning difficulties. In order to ensure the sustainability of this project, the Education Team has established a mothers’ group in the local primary school in order to transfer the tools while raising awareness of learning difficulties and empowering the parents in the process. Following several weeks of preparations, the volunteers finally created a forum of committed and enthusiastic parents. The first sessions covered an introduction to the cognitive processes of learning difficulties, and future sessions will further reflect the particular cases of the kids.
