Women's Empowerment in Uganda
Project TEN-Brit Olam's Uganda Center women empowerment team has been working with three groups of women on various projects...
The work with the women focused on the following:
- Home economics where women learn how to make jam and sauce in hope to help them learn how to preserve food.
- Math lessons where the women learn basic mathematical skills - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- English lessons on different levels from learning the ABC to reading short stories with powerful women heroes.
- Jewlery making - where we taught the women how to make bracelets and necklaces out of paper beads in order to sell them in the local tourist market.
The group prepared a 3-year work plan that explains the steps the women need to go through in order to achieve the project goals. While working on the plan, we built a campaign about the importance of a healthy diet and to help the local population do so in
their budget. The last month has been an amazing experience for us, the connection with the women of each group and with the project in general is very strong and we are proud to be the beginning of a wonderful process.
